A year's worth of mud in Gonaives
Donal Reilly is Senior Emergency Advisor with Catholic Relief Services.

Gonaives is a mess. Haiti is a poor place on a good day. I used to work in the slums in Port-au-Prince, but I've never seen this amount of destruction. The water was a huge issue at first. It rose past the first floor levels of the buildings at the center of town. People who worked in Aceh described it like the Tsunami effect, but the water didn't come from the sea.

Recovering from trauma in Haiti
Anne Touissant is a Protection Advisor & Program Development Manager for CRS in Haiti.

As we drove in our 4x4 Toyota land cruiser through the bumpy streets of Les Cayes, Haiti, I was taken by the extent of the damage. There were six of us crammed into our car: 3 Catholic Relief staffers and 3 staffers from AVSI an Italian non-profit that specializes in working with children who have lived through traumatic events.

Haiti storms exacerbate food crisis

Things are grim in Haiti. Villages remain inaccessible. People are scrambling to find boats that can take supplies in to these communities. Gonaives is still under water.

Anne Touissant is a Protection Advisor are the men and women separated in the shelter? Are the shelters well lit and do they have separate bathroom facilities?

A colleague of mine was in a shelter-in a room with 400 people cramped together: women, men and children, with no access to hygiene. They have a little bit of food with nothing to do. It's misery.
