Silver Spring, Maryland--For the fifth consecutive year, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has met the exacting standards of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance, an organization designed to help donors make educated choices in regards to charitable giving, and encourage ethical accountability in the philanthropic sector.

The BBB awarded ADRA the Charity Seal, a recognition that an organization has met a set of 20 individual standards of charitable accountability, which were established to ensure honest solicitation, promote ethical conduct, and cultivate an atmosphere of confidence in the charitable giving sector. These standards are grouped in four categories: appropriate governance and oversight, effectiveness in meeting mission objectives, ethical financial management, and accurate and comprehensive information disclosure in fundraising and informational materials.

"As an organization, we strive to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability," said Gideon Mutero, vice president for Finance at ADRA International. "We are proud to see that our commitment to excellence continues to be acknowledged by the BBB, and we expect that our dedication will be shown in the work that we do, for many years to come."

This year ADRA was among some 230 entities who received the charity seal, including the AARP Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Oprah's Angel Network.

ADRA displays the BBB national charity seal on its official Web site at www.adra.org, and select publications. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance information can be found at www.give.org. Their full report for ADRA is available here.

ADRA is a non-governmental organization present in 125 countries providing sustainable community development and disaster relief without regard to political or religious association, age, gender, race or ethnicity.
