On 19 June, MAG officially handed-over the report on the evaluation of PNB SALW ("Phase 1") to the Director General of the Police Nationale Burundaise (PNB), which was followed by a presentation of the survey conclusions and the way forward to the Regional and Provincial police authorities.

The "Phase 2", a comprehensive Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) project to improve the management of PNB-owned SALW, consists of 3 activities: (1) the removal or destruction of obsolete and surplus SALW and the marking of weapons, (2) the improvement of the physical security of armouries, and (3) the training of armourers.

The Dutch-funded project to collect and destroy SALW that were seized by the PNB or voluntarily handed-over was completed in June.

The MAG-PNB mobile team has now moved on to the Phase 2 to collect and destroy surplus and obsolete SALW from the PNB. Mid-July, the team has conducted a special mission for the CDCPA (national commission for civilian disarmament and SALW) to transport and destroy SALW that had recently been collected from the population. Ammunition were destroyed on 24 July at the Mudubugu destruction site with the presence of the Burundian media.

In June and July, the Physical Security team, funded by the Swiss Government, improved security in 11 armouries in the Provinces of Bururi, Makamba and Rutana, Police Region South.

Finally, MAG offered technical support to the FDN for the destruction of ammunition originating from the disarmament of the FNL: 509 grenades, 15 mortar-shells, 65 rocket propellers, 6 anti-personnel mines, and 45,500 Small Arms Ammunition (SAA) were destroyed.
