Droughts, cyclones, floods. Life-threatening, overwhelming, and extreme. These natural disasters are now more frequent and more intense because of climate change. For poor families, the consequences are devastating. Homes, schools, crops, animals all wiped out - along with years of hard work.
There is an opportunity to get involved and add your voice to the current Oxfam campaign to help reduce global warming by adding support to Oxfam's climate change campaign.
Climate change hurts poor people first and worst. It is already impacting the work we do today. If we are to end poverty and suffering for all people, we must fight the impacts of climate change and we must fight for real change in the actions of our governments.
Immediate, life-saving support is a vital part of our work. But it's not the whole story. Behind the scenes, beyond the headlines, we're working on lots of ways to predict what's coming next - and meet it head on, fully prepared.
The solutions are out there. Innovative, low-tech ideas that can keep people safe. And Oxfam is helping to get them up and running. In Viet Nam, families are planting mangroves to protect their homes and their harvest. These natural flood barriers absorb the impact of tropical storms - and score bonus points for helping to restore the marine life.
