As security conditions worsen, the Medecins du Monde team in Jebel Marra, in the region of Deribat, has been evacuated to the town of Nyala. Fighting between government forces and rebels broke out last week and in the wake of the violence the MDM team treated the wounded.

In the last couple of days the fighting in Jebel Marra has intensified and forced MDM to remove the team by chartered helicopter.

The medical staff from the five health care centers in the intervention zone (Deribat, Jawa, Dera Souro and Falloujah) will continue to maintain minimal emergency activities. MDM is acting in the isolated region of Deribat in the heart of Jebel Marra next to rural communities without international support. The program was created to reinforce access to primary health care, with a focus on mother and child healthcare and malnutrition. Over the past year MDM has seen 1200 patients a week.
