ARBIL, Iraq, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Floods killed at least three people, damaged or ruined 100 homes and washed away two bridges in a remote part of northern Iraq's Kurdistan region, the local council chief said on Thursday.

The flooding late on Wednesday also left roads in the area impassable, cutting it off from aid, Abdul Wahid Gwani, chief of the affected Choman district, told Reuters.

The body of a farmer and his wife and daughter were found, while another man was missing after being swept away.

Several small hydroelectric generators along waterfalls in the mountainous area near the Iranian border were destroyed.

The governor of the Kurdish capital Arbil, Nawzad Hadi Mawlood, told Reuters he had appealed to the region's largely autonomous government for aid.

"I have contacted the authorities and the Red Crescent branch in the governorate to urgently give food, blankets and cooking utensils for families affected by the floods," he said. (Reporting by Shamal Aqrawi; Writing by Tim Cocks)
