UNITED NATIONS, March 6 (Reuters) - The United States expressed grave concern on Friday about the situation in Darfur after the Sudanese government ordered out more than a dozen aid groups, and said millions of people's lives were at risk.
"The United States is gravely concerned by the reckless decision of the Sudanese government to expel international aid groups working to ease the suffering of Sudan's citizens," Ambassador Susan Rice told reporters in a conference call.
"The humanitarian situation in the country is already dire and this callous step threatens the lives of innocents already suffering from years of war and upheaval," she said, adding that millions of civilians were at risk.
