WASHINGTON, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Abbott Laboratories <ABT.N> won U.S. approval for a new screening test for the HIV virus that causes AIDS, U.S. health officials said on Friday. The Abbott Prism HIV O Plus can detect antibodies to HIV types found in the United States and parts of Africa and Europe, the Food and Drug Administration said. The test was approved for screening donated blood and specimens from organ donors, the FDA said. Positive results require confirmation from other tests.
