Aug 26 (Reuters) - Senator Edward Kennedy's death focuses attention on the younger members of the dynasty, many of whom have embraced the family ethic of public service, inside or outside of electoral politics.

Following is a list of some of the younger Kennedy family members and their main career highlights:

* Patrick Kennedy, son of Edward Kennedy - U.S. Congressman representing Rhode Island.

* Caroline Kennedy, daughter of assassinated President John F. Kennedy - Philanthropist who works to raise money for New York public schools. Withdrew from a bid this year to succeed Hillary Clinton in the New York Senate.

The following are nieces and nephews of Edward Kennedy and President Kennedy.

* Maria Shriver - First lady of California and a television journalist.

* Bobby Shriver - Has produced a prime-time television feature about the Special Olympics and co-founded, with U2's singer Bono, the group DATA (Debt, Aids, Trade and Africa).

* Timothy Shriver - Chairman of the Special Olympics, an organization founded by his late mother Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

* Robert Kennedy - Environmental activist and attorney.

* Kerry Kennedy - Human rights activist. She established the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Human Rights and Speak Truth to Power, a human rights group.

* Christopher Kennedy - President of Merchandise Mart Properties, a massive commercial building in Chicago.

* Rory Kennedy - Documentary film maker focusing on social issues including poverty and AIDS.

* Anthony Kennedy Shriver - Founded Best Buddies, a nonprofit organization that fosters friendships between people with and without intellectual disabilities.

* Kathleen Kennedy Townsend - Served as lieutenant governor for Maryland before running unsuccessfully for governor in 2002. (Editing by Pascal Fletcher and David Storey)
