| Description: | The Reuters Foundation was created in 1982 to support journalists from developing countries. Today the Thomson Reuters foundation embraces a wide range of educational, humanitarian, and environmental causes and projects. These include AlertNet (the online news and communication service for international disaster relief community), AIDFUND (fast support for aid agencies in the hours immediately following the onset of natural disaster), Educational projects, Community Projects and Journalism Training.
The core function of the Development Manager is to support the work of the Foundation, and in particular the work of the Journalism Training team, by supporting strategic fundraising to maximise income from existing and new donors and securing funding from institutional donors and large foundations.
Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of fundraising strategy and practice, developing proposals and all necessary associated data and reporting
- Develop major new relationships with funders - Contribute to the Foundation overall corporate strategy - Provide specialist advice, guidance and training to Foundation colleagues Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant field Required Skills: - In depth knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising - Significant experience including proposal and report writing for institutional donors such as Trusts and Foundations, DFID, USAID, and in particular EuropeAid/ECHO - Proven capacity in planning, monitoring and reporting on training, journalism/media programmes or similar fields - Track record of meeting or exceeding targets and proven success of securing funds from official donors - A highly organised approach and excellent team working is required, as well as good attention to detail - Ability to communicate complex concepts to a broad audience - Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workloads - Excellent interpersonal skills - Excellent written communication and presentation skills - Excellent written and spoken English - Excellent financial management skills - Interest in the mission of the Thomson Reuters Foundation Desired Skills: Post-graduate degree preferred in a relevant field Foreign Language Skills Good knowledge of at least one foreign language |
